National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme
The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act was notified on September 7, 2005. The Objective of the Act is to enhance livelihood security in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
The Act was initially, brought into being in some states of the country. Punjab saw its implementation in 2006. Hoshiarpur was the 1st Phase district . Amritsar, Jalandhar and Nawanshahar ensued as 2nd Phase districts. Alongwith all the remaining districts, Kapurthala became the Phase III district w.e.f. April 1st,2008.

Activities Under SSA
The balance amount 8.82 lacs of SGRY(Sampooran Gramin Rozgar Yozna)which was merged in NREGS w.e.f. 01-04-08, was added to the initial instalment of Rs. 95.89 lacs ,hence totalling the amount of the grant to 104.71 lacs.
With the able guidance of worthy DC-cum-DPC, Kapurthala.,various critical activities have been triggered off. For awarness & training of the Officials / non Official & members of PRI, workshops/seminars at the Distt.,Block & clusters of adjoining villages,are being organised with gusto & elan.
The Distt. has prepared 9162 job cards for distribution to the ruralites who demand work.
Besides,for the execution of the projects of the Line Departments amount of Rs. 35.43 lacs(Drainage Department :19.33 lacs,Forest Department 16.10 lacs) has been released to the BD&POs such as under:
